At some point, after a sip of a really good IPA, someone mentioned: “You know these things are all great, and we’d want to share them with our kids. But really, you have to demonstrate these ideas if you want children to learn them.”
Since I consume both of these beverages in large quantities, it was nice to see what I've gotten myself into! Thought I would share this essential knowledge with all of you. Enjoy. The Good: Beer makes you less worried about the world around you, which frees up your brain to make deeper connections and come up with great ideas. The caffeine from coffee kicks in after only 5 minutes, which gives you more energy and a stronger ability to focus. The Bad: A couple of beers makes you less focused and decreases your memory. So… a good night at the pub last Thursday. So intense it took me a week to attempt to relive it. A nice group – some friends from in town, some friends from out of town, some other friends… The topics, shorthand, were setup as follows: man vs. wild, soul vs. body, and interpretation vs. facts.
To new and old readers of this blog, to those who I've been able to lift a pint with, and to those gathering everywhere to enjoy a good brew and engage in thoughtful discussion, here's to 2013! While I was an undergrad Religious Studies major at a state university, I had some of the best interfaith conversations of my life... at the bar. Our regular group consisted of an atheist, a Wiccan, a Catholic, and a Methodist (me). There were others from the department who would join us at times. This group was informal, formed quite organically, and was the setting of some of the most rewarding theological and philosophical conversations I ever had. Then something happened. I went to seminary.
