Attending a conference in Minneapolis entitled, “Funding the Missional Church”.  It’s been inspiring, challenging and very fun.  Great to meet so many people who are seeking to create unique, engaging communities of Christ followers.

‘Spiritual but not religious’: A Response

The real reason 'spiritual but not religious' is a cop-out. A guest post by Robert Kroese. Recently I ran across a blog post with the title My Take: “I’m spiritual but not religious” is a cop-out. I read the post with interest because I’ve often thought this very thing: that claiming to be “spiritual” isn’t an answer to a question about one’s religious beliefs, but rather a way to avoid the question while sounding like one has put some thought into it.

No Interpretation Needed?

Are you skeptical about biblical interpretation? Does it seem that someone can just "make it say anything?" Are you one of those who would prefer to just "read it for what it says"? You're not alone. Many are intimidated by the vast amount of study some seem to think reading the Bible requires. Can't I just take the "plain sense" of a text and arrive at what God is trying to say to me?

Church Planters Academy Highlights 2

Tonight's portion was on failure in church planting — Rich McCullen (Missiongathering), Mike Stavlund (Common Table), and Mark Scandrette (ReImagine). "Only those who have been wounded by power learn to wield it responsibly." "Instead of building, think of gardening. What can grow here? What's already flowering even w/o tending?" "If something is not working let it die."

“Holy Innocents” and the Birth of Jesus

Jesus was born into a world of violence. A world where demented people kill innocent children. It’s right there in the infancy narrative of the first gospel (in the order in your Bibles). It’s easy to miss, because we don’t often focus on it in our telling of the Christmas story–-understandably so.
